Norit extending reactivation services in the UK.
Great news at the start of 2005! Norit now offers a complete package of reactivation services in the UK, enabling it to reactivate exhausted activated carbon for applications involving gas/air and wastewater, in addition to applications for drinking water purification and the food industry. For the UK market, Norit relies on its reactivation plant in the Bristol area, as well as reactivation plants on the continent. Thermal reactivation; Norit’s reactivation service is a cost-effective and environmentally sound solution. 'The recent implementation of the EU Landfill Directive in the UK is further boosting interest in thermal reactivation of exhausted GAC,' comments Mark Currier, Norit UK Sales Manager. During thermal reactivation, the exhausted granular activated carbon (GAC) is heat treated in dedicated kilns at temperatures exceeding 900oC. Adsorbed organic compounds are cracked and oxidised. Following reactivation, the GAC's adsorptive properties are restored to a level comparable to that of virgin GAC. As a result, the GAC can be reused in the same or a similar application. Exhausted carbon: green and amber; The relevant EU regulation categorises exhausted GAC as either green (used in water purification and food production) or amber (used in the treatment of gas/air or wastewater). Norit reactivates green and amber GAC in completely separate systems, precluding the risk of cross contamination. Norit reactivation plants; Norit’s UK reactivation plant is located in the Bristol area. The operation used to be a 50/50 joint venture between Bristol Water and Norit, but in early 2005 Norit acquired all the shares in this operation and now fully owns the plant. Yet more great news for 2005! Norit’s mainland Europe reactivation plants are located in the Netherlands and Italy. 'Our chain of high-quality reactivation plants, all of which are ISO 9001 certified, is our asset, enabling us to provide optimal services to the customer,' says Jos Boere, Norit Reactivation Business Manager in Europe. Norit employees at your service; Norit's employees are essential to making things happen. A sophisticated service like thermal reactivation requires qualified people at all levels. Supported by a team of application specialists at Norit’s head office, Norit’s UK sales team and plant staff are at your service. 26-04-2005 |
