An important question for users of granular activated carbon: what should I do when my carbon is saturated? In many cases, regeneration through thermal reactivation – treatment in special kilns at temperatures of 850 °C and above – is the answer. Thermal reactivation addresses for 2 key features: environmental responsibility and cost effectiveness.

Norit offers services for off site thermal reactivation. The exhausted carbon is regenerated in state of the art reactivation facilities, in the USA and Europe.

Norit uses dedicated reactivation facilities, depending on the type of exhausted carbon:

• Carbon from potable water treatment and food industries
• Carbon from wastewater treatment, gas treatment or chemical applications

Based on an extensive review of client's needs, different programs are offered:

• Returning client's own carbon after reactivation
• Carbon in pool concept
• Intake of exhausted carbon – supply of fresh carbon

Case by case, client and Norit select the optimal way of carbon transport and handling; e.g. transport by bulk tank car, bulk container or bulk bags.
